The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India published a report showing that out of 1.6 billion wireless subscribers, 200 mobile phones (single state) are missing per day, which may lead to cyber fraud and cause consumers to lose a huge amount of hard-earned money. In an ideal scenario, the consumer whose mobile is stolen needs to immediately alert DoT on a helpline number after filling out a report with the local police. The threat is not only specific to money but also to national security.
Mobile is not only a medium for communication; it's also a mini-bank with all the personal information that is confidential either way.
The consumer needs to understand the importance of data breaches, which can be avoided by simple steps in the case of stolen mobiles, which are readily available online. Just guidance and smarts play a key role at the right time.
In today's world, everyone has an account with GMAIL, and that's the way out to which I want to refer here.
GMAIL facilitates the identification of the location of the mobile phones (if mobile data is on) and the deletion of the complete account details from the stolen mobile platform by logging into the GMAIL settings in simple steps.
Steps to Follow to Trace the Stole Mobile Location and Deletion of the Data via GMAIL.
- Login to your GMAIL account via desktop, laptop, other mobile device, tablet, etc., and click on your profile photo in the top-right corner of the window. After that, a drop-down menu starts appearing where one needs to select or click on the Manage Your Google Account option.
Step 1 - GMAIL login |
- On the next screen, one will get multiple options like Privacy & Personalization, Security Issues Found, Account Storage & Privacy Suggestions Available, and Post Stolen Mobile. One needs to select the Security Issues Found Option (Secure Account).
Step 2 - Click on Secure Account |
- Under Security Check-up, click on the Your Devices option, where one will be able to see the multiple number of devices to which the Google Account is linked, including laptops, desktops, and finally mobile. One can select the devices one by one for deletion of the data and trace the same from Google Maps.
Step 3 - Devise Login Details |
- Another important step is to click on Security Option on the left side of the Google Setting main window and drag the page below where the user will get the option of Your Devises and select the lost devices from there.
Step 4 - Select Stolen Devise |
- Post Clicking on the lost Devise user will give you options like Sign Out, Find Device and IP-related details. If one clicks on Sigh Out, the account will be removed from the stolen or lost device; however, before doing that, it is always suggested to click on Find Device to trace the real-time location.
Step 5 - Location Tracer / Sign Out Page |
- Once you click on the Find Device option, a new window will open with a map on it, and on the left side, the user will be able to find the details of the device. There are three options available if one forgets where the device was stored or knows the location where the device was lost. Also on the right side of the map, where the map is appearing, one can find the exact location, circled green with a mobile sign on it.
Step 5 - Select Device Location |
- And the final and important step is to click on the Green Circle Mobile Sign-on the Map window, which will route the user to the exact location address in a new window. The user can just click on Directions option on the window, and Google Map will route to the exact location where the device is present currently.
Step 6 - Finding Exact Location |
