Climate Change Performance Index and Launch Of e-Amrit Web portal by GOI - We (India) are in top 10 list !!

The future is uncertain, but we can make it better with our present actions. Climate change is very vital as it helps determine future climate expectations. The objective of the CCPI (Climate Change Performance Index) is to bring transparency in international climate politics and a comparative analysis of the efforts and progress made by individual nations.

Climate Change is real - Its the result of choices we made in the past

The main drivers of current climate change are the emissions of greenhouse gases, which include carbon dioxide and methane. The main reason for its release is the burning of fossil fuels. Based on air and sea temperature measurements, it is clear whether temperatures are rising or not, as there are measuring stations all around the world that keep track.

How Carbon Dioxide is generated ? So to burn carbon and produce carbon dioxide, we need oxygen, which means the quantity of oxygen is decreasing day by day due to the increase in carbon dioxide produced by burning fossil fuel. We now hear a lot from the news that some regions are getting extreme hotter and seasons are at times temporary cooler. Some places will see drawn-out seasons, while others may experience concentrated bursts of extreme weather.

What is our Contribution to Stop Climate Changes:

  • Planting more and more trees is one of the best ways to recover the damage already done and save our future from unexpected natural disasters.
  • Promoting the use of solar and wind energy and becoming carbon neutral An increase in CO2 (carbon dioxide) in the air reduces oxygen in the environment; hence, one should focus on reducing the generation of CO2.
  • Veganism or a plant-based diet with less meat is another way one can support climate change, as livestock contributes directly or indirectly through the emission of GHGs such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Also, the global livestock sector contributes about 75% of agriculture's N2O emissions. Try to avoid products made from palm oil, which contributes to deforestation.
  • Every organisation or corporation should disclose and act on climate-related risks.
    • Taking my current organisation's example, they are socially responsible for climate change-related initiatives where our focus is to plant more trees and motivate employees to work towards environmental betterment. One of the successful initiatives of our organisation is Each One Plants One.
    • Got Global recognition for my contribution towards Each One Pant One initiative where my focus was to plant more trees and have successfully planted more than 25 trees/plants within my society premises 👇

  • One should focus on reducing food waste. As per the report, 18.8 gigatons of CO2 emissions would be avoided if food waste was reduced by 50% by 2050.
  • We, as responsible citizens, should pressurize the government to bring more eco-friendly approaches like the e-Amrit web portal to boost electrical vehicles and spend energy investments on cleaner power sources.
  • Another key factor in climate change is fossil fuel use. If we focus on reducing the use of fossil fuels, we play a vital role. We can reduce the fossil fuel usage from day-to-day activities like driving cars under 60 miles per hour, frequently changing the air filter, using gas-powered or electronic vehicles, and last but not least, using public transport or  pooling, which leads to fewer cars on the road.

The climate protection performance are assessed in four important categories which together account for 92% of global greenhouse gas (GHG). So in simple words basis below 4 criteria ranking is finalized which includes.

CCP Assessment Criteria

      • GHG Emissions - 40% of overall score
      • Renewable Energy - 20 % of overall score
      • Energy Use - 20 % of overall score
      • Climate Policy - 20% of overall score
India's rating is in the 10th position and is rated high in GHG emissions, energy use, and climate policy categories, but medium in renewable energy. Now the country's main focus is on the implementation and achievement of NDC (nationally determined contribution) targets. That's why the GOI is focusing on the use of electric vehicles and launched the e-Amrit web portal, which gives all the knowledge of buying and purchasing, investment opportunities, and policies and subsidies. The launch of the e-Amrit web portal was done at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.

There are no countries falling under the 1, 2, or 3 ranking criteria as evaluation is done rigorously, and as per the current status, countries are yet to follow high standard measures on all four CCP assessment criteria. Among the newly added countries in the current year, the Philippines performs well in the GGE category, Columbia rates medium, and Viet Nam receives the lowest rating.

GGE Worldwide Ranking

The G20 performance of the United Kingdom, Mexico, India, and Germany received high ratings; however, no country rates very highly in the GHG emissions category. Saudi Arabia remains the worst-performing G20 country, and seven G20 countries receive a very low rating for their performance, including Australia, Canada, the Russian Federation, and the United States. The best-performing EU country is Sweden, ranked 5th.
